Luxury Lake Living

As the spring and summer seasons draw near, we’re giving more thought to being outdoors!  Recently, Home Adore Magazine shared images of a lakeside residence in NewCindy-Portrait York, designed by Crisp Architects, that we just had to share!

In addition to these gorgeous images, Braden’s designer, Cindy Hamby, shares a few of her favorite design tips to consider when styling a lake home.  (Learn more about Cindy and our other staff interior designers here.)

Cindy says, “Since you’re creating a living space in this particular location, due to the water views, be sure to make the most of the views my minimizing window treatments!  If you have to have window treatments, make sure they can easily be tucked away and are complimentary in color so as not to make themselves overly present.  The view itself is priority and shouldn’t have to compete for anyone’s attention!”

“Make these living spaces comfortable!  Generally speaking, we go to a lake home to relax and get away, right?!  If this is the case, we don’t want to get there only to be stuck with overly formal, uninviting or uncomfortable furniture and décor.  We want to relax, unwind and decompress.  There are plenty of fine furniture lines out there who create more comfortable, more relaxed styles and designs.  You don’t have to scrimp on quality in order to have less formal décor.”

“Think neutrals.  Again, we go to a lake home in order to get away and enjoy the serenity and scenery.  To fully take advantage of the views, it’s best to keep indoor color palettes more neutral and less bold.  Hues of greens, browns, beiges and creams will work to best compliment the natural scenery surrounding your home.  When indoors, the colors that surround you won’t vie for your attention over those gorgeous views.”

“Use more glass!  It’s all about the scenery when building a lake home.  If your lot is private, take advantage of it and go with more glass in order to maximize your views.  Don’t be afraid of more window action in normally private places, such as a bathroom!  Think how lovely that bubble bath will be when staring out over that lake!”
