Designer David Storie talks 2016 Knoxville Symphony League Show House

Q&A With Designer David Storie

Braden’s Designers, David Storie, Michelle Vittetoe and Anni Koch have been hard at work in the 2016 Knoxville Symphony League Show House!  David Storie, who has served as lead designer in this year’s installation, answered a few questions for us regarding the show house and even shared a few images for a sneak peek inside their design!

Braden’s:  Which room will the Braden’s team be working on this year?

David Storie:  We will be styling the Master Suite, which includes the Master Bathroom and Walk-In Closet.

Braden’s:  If you had to use three words to describe your room’s style, what would they be?

David:  Sensual, Comfortable, Inviting . . . Romantic, Elegant.  (He laughs)  I know you said only three, but it’s really all of these things.  I could keep going.

Braden’s:  What is your favorite aspect of this room’s design?  Why?

David:  I think it’s the neutral tones because they create a safe and inviting environment.  When you walk into the room, it makes you feel relaxed.  We also used a lot of warm gold tones with the neutral palette, so to me, it feels very inviting.

Braden’s:  What do you think are the most important design elements to consider when styling a Master Bedroom?

David:  I have a lot of clients who want to save the Master Bedroom til the end of their design budget and plan.  I happen to disagree with this because it’s an incredibly important room in the house.  It’s a room where a lot of people spend a lot of time, and it can ultimately be your sanctuary.  So when contemplating the most important ‘design elements’ for this space, I would have to say functionality and comfort.  It’s a safe haven and needs to be clean, comfortable and inviting.

If you’re someone who spends a lot of time reading in your room, perhaps a sitting area is necessary.  Thought and time need to be given to this space because it’s the last room we see before we sleep at night and it’s the first room we see when we wake in the morning.
